Factory oil recommendations (was Re: [Farmall] parts

Mike,

Very well said, and my thoughts exactly.

Here's a fer instance: Most folks recommend Hy-Tran for our Cub hydraulic
systems, evidently thinking it contains some magic other fluids lack. It's
very name should suggest it is formulated for HYdraulics and TRANSmissions.
Hydraulics alone don't require all its' properties. Here's what I think a
hydraulic system needs:
  1. A fluid that doesn't compress
  2. A fluid that doesn't foam
  3. A fluid that doesn't attack gaskets and seals.
  4. A fluid that lubricates moving parts
  5. A fluid that tolerates temperatures nearly as high as an engine
  6. A fluid that is priced reasonably

On my score card, Hy-Tran doesn't do very well when compared to most
anything else... It gets only a 5, and most any other hydraulic fluid gets a
6.

I know Case recommends what they sell, and a barber will always think you
need a haircut. That's what he's selling.

I hope and pray that using an alternative won't void my 60 year warranty.
