I suspect that Chuck is correct. I know that I have been busy now that
the weather around here has turned to real Spring. I finished preparing
the IH 2001 loader that will be mounted on my Farmall 340, but I am
waiting for some parts in order to get the tractor itself ready.
<http://public.fotki.com/mikesloane/tractor_loaders/> I will be using
the bucket from a junk IH 1701 loader that I bought for $50. The bucket
turned out to be the best part of it, but it needs 4 manure tines of the
original 6. Unfortunately, Case IH wants $45 each for new tines, so I
will have to find used or make them from 1 1/8" square stock steel.

Then I mounted the "new" IH 100 7' sickle bar on the Farmall 560 and
used it to cut up a bunch of multiflora rose bushes and push the locust
trees away from the roadway - the neat part of this mower is the ability
to cut in a straight vertical position, thanks to the PO's skill in
installing a hydraulic cylinder to adjust the cutter bar. In addition, I
replaced the 560's torn old seat cushion and backrest with new ones, and
then I painted and installed the "new" fenders I bought from the same
guy who sold me the 2001 loader and 100 mower.

The old Super Six loader looks like it will end up being installed on my
Farmall Super M. I have one free hydraulic outlet, and this loader is
just hydraulic up, gravity down, with a trip bucket - one outlet is all
I need. But it will a while before I get to that project - it is quite
rusty, the cylinders are off of it, and the trip mechanism needs a
little attention.

Earlier this week was "spring start up day" for all the tractors stored
in my neighbor's barn. I guess I must have been doing something right,
because they eventually all started up. Oddly enough, the oldest ones
started the easiest, including the '47 Farmall Cub and the '46 Ford 2N.
The last and hardest one to start was the '79 IH 184; I am going to have
to figure out why that one is so cantankerous about starting.

It is cloudy here in NJ today, with an occasional spatter of rain, so
today is an "indoors" day - catching up on putting manuals away and
other puttering. The grass is starting to grow, and I guess I will be
busy cutting in a couple of weeks. With gasoline prices rising quickly
again ($2.63 for regular this morning), I will be keeping my use of gas
tractors down to a minimum again this summer. I used to think nothing of
filling up half a dozen 5-gallon cans and emptying them into various
tractor tanks. Now I buy 10 gallons and only add it to a tractor that
needs it to finish a job. And "road trips" with the diesel truck and
trailer are going to quickly become a thing of the past. I guess that is
what happens when you retire and have to watch prices go up and your
income stays the same. :-(

There is also an artificial aristocracy founded on wealth and birth,
without either virtue or talents... The artificial aristocracy is a
mischievous ingredient in government, and provisions should be made to
prevent its ascendancy. -Thomas Jefferson, third US president, architect
and author (1743-1826)
