My most memorable experience with the older spans was a few years ago.  My new 
wife, her little sister and I were caught in rush hour traffic going toward Mt. 
Pleasant.  Little sister had to pee.  It was rather tense until we were able to 
get to the Mt. Pleasant side :)
The new span is a thing of beauty to look at.  Much nicer than the older ones - 
and much longer - last time I was around there I took one last drive over the 
old spans - I sure won't miss them.
