All the diesel I buy is "off road diesel fuel". It is exempt from a portion
of the tax that road diesel carries. The dye is something that has been on
and off over the years used to identify farm fuel from road fuel, be it gas
or diesel. Quite frankly I don't know if my diesel is dyed now or not. I
would tend to say no but being slightly colour blind I may be wrong.
In the old days farm gas was known as 'purple gas" due to the colour of the
dye used to identify it. Only meant for farm equipment use originally but
later on pickup trucks were allowed which contributed greatly to the
population of farm pickups here on the prairies.
