For sure.. the gunked up carb needed to be cleaned.  Next power loss areas 
to look at is air cleaner and spark.  Pull a wire and hold near block.. 
unless it is blue and snappy.. you need to replace the coil/wires copper 
core.. cap / rotor / points, and ignition switch.. etc.. clean all 
connections too.. can't hurt.
