I am actually enjoying this thread, as I am a proud owner of a #30
combine... I bought it several years ago to use, but its in the line up of
resto but its functional as is, just not as pretty as some of my other
stuff.. I have always liked the tow behind combines and found that the 30
has the features of the modern style (no canvas) and the Skourclean unit...I
have been trying to research the skourclean maker but have found little or
no info on them.. the man I bought the combine from was using it on soybeans
and said it produced cleaner beans than his modern combine...I have not used
it yet but take his word for it...The only downfall is the thing is quite
large and difficult to transport. We moved it from Ohio to Alabama in 2
sections...I have got the longer unloader pipe for the taller wagons and a
couple other features on it... I just have a fondness for harvesting items..
I really also want a 227 picker for my 70 and a corn binder....But got to
get some other things cleaned up before I do those....

Subject: [AJD] JD Combines

I glanced in some JD dealer add copy books which show every item offered for
the model year of the book.

For 1939, JD combines were offered as follows:

#5-A tractor pulled with 10 or 12 foot cut

#7 self propelled eight foot cut

#17 self propelled 12 or 16 foot cut

#6 tractor pulled economical 6 foot model

1940 offered the #5=A, #7 #17 but added the new #11 and #12 for small and
medium sized farms. The #11 had a 54 inch cutter bar and 6" gather to cut a
5 foot swath. #12 was sized up to a 6 foot swath. Both were tractor pull.
You can chuck your binder - thresher with these machines.

Also on the way in 1940 is the new JD #9 tractor pull combine. The #9 is a
light weight 12 foot auger type, rasp bar cylinder combine. This machine is
designed for the small grain farmers in the Great Plains ares. Be thrifty,
and buy one now!!

Thought some would enjoy this.
