I glanced in some JD dealer add copy books which show every item offered for the model year of the book.

For 1939, JD combines were offered as follows:

#5-A tractor pulled with 10 or 12 foot cut

#7 self propelled eight foot cut

#17 self propelled 12 or 16 foot cut

#6 tractor pulled economical 6 foot model

1940 offered the #5=A, #7 #17 but added the new #11 and #12 for small and medium sized farms. The #11 had a 54 inch cutter bar and 6" gather to cut a 5 foot swath. #12 was sized up to a 6 foot swath. Both were tractor pull. You can chuck your binder - thresher with these machines.

Also on the way in 1940 is the new JD #9 tractor pull combine. The #9 is a light weight 12 foot auger type, rasp bar cylinder combine. This machine is designed for the small grain farmers in the Great Plains ares. Be thrifty, and buy one now!!

Thought some would enjoy this.
