 I don't know what you used for paint but, NAPA has a Prism line  of paint 
and I use the urethane enamel car paint on my engines and  boilers. It shines 
good like a car and it withstands 350 degrees F without  discoloring or loosing 
its shine and it cleans up wit a little W. D-40 and  a clean rag. It is 
expensive but to me you can't beat the look and the  durability.
 I plan to paint my 75 horse boiler on the sawmill peterbuilt  Caiman red I 
think it should look beautiful.
  Well, thetas my two cents but it's the best paint that I have  found.
