I unloaded an loaded a lot of heavy equipment at Fort Ord over the 13 years
that I worked there. We were Lucky as we had a ramp and a 20 ton crane in the
shop. I can feel for you sometimes its real hairy getting that stuff off or
on a trailer bed.
The neat thing was getting a 60 ton tank in on a low boy with enough tires
to open a tire shop.
On occasion we had to get the 25 ton crane from the Engineers shop to unload
an item.
One time I had to load an old D-8 that the engine was not running on. I used
the pony engine to move it. The blade was cable operated and the brake for
the cable was out so I had to keep one hand on the lever to keep the blade up
one on the clutch lever one on the steering clutches and one for everything
else, You kind of run out of hands sooner or later.
