Funny in my 40 years as mechanic I have never  heard of priming an oil pump. 
They are supposed to be positive displacement  pumps, so they will pump air as 
well as oil. If they won't do that then they  need to be repaired or 
replaced. One thing you don't want is an oil pump that  doesn't work right off the bat 
when the engine starts.
