[AT] new spuds

An acquaintance of mine uses a similar method, but with discarded tires
instead
of wire mesh to retain the straw. He adds tires and straw as the plants
grow,
then removes the tires/mulch when the spuds are ready to harvest.

I'm trying an experiment this year. I planted a few potatoes in cages I
build
from wire fencing. As they grew I added more straw/spoiled hay. The
plants
grew up to about 6 feet tall. They are now beginning to die so potato
harvest
is soon. It'll be interesting to see what I get from this experiment.
Been a
few years but I've picked up many potatoes (my Grandpa always planted
about a
1/4 acre of Kennebec potatoes - I sure miss those days.
