Ralph: Since you mentioned it, I recall fighting this same problem about 20 years ago on a chevy suburban. I had replaced the coil aout 2 years before with a Walmart one... I installed a new NAPA coil and had no further problems. $10 should buy a new coil for that tractor. Sure would be worth a try.... Cecil
