[AJD] Losing my mind getting the "B" in time

ok..... let me see if I can clearly explain my problem.

problem # 1

I decided to retime the tractor from the ground up(at least from the
govenor up) according to my manual in the section for timing the govenor,
you rotate the fly wheel till the mark on it where it says LH IMPULSE,
lines up with the mark on the gear cover, and when it does, that the drive
in the govenor should be parallel with the top of the crank case......
when the marks on the fly wheel/gear cover line up, the gears will not
mesh, the only way for the drive in the govenor to be parallel, is for the
marks to be off almost a half inch on the fly wheel/ gear cover.
So I left it retarded rather than advanced for now.

Problem # 2

Ok so now its time to remount the magneto and time it

manual mentions 2 different ways, one for the B96000-B201000, and a second
method for the 201000 and up mine is in the 201000 and up category

so it instructs one to remove LH spark plug, and rotate flywheel till you
feel pressure building in the cylinder then continue to rotate till PUNCH
MARK on fly wheel hub lines up with V MARK of fly wheel cover........ this
is where I thought that it was odd, because its a bit off from where the
other marks were when timing the govenor.... but who am I to argue with
instructions. once again it states that the drive coupling in govenor will
be in the horizontal position, NOT SO!!!!!!? So, really long story into a
slightly shorter one, I went back and remeshed govenor gears so that drive
coupling in govenor are horizontal when the PUNCH MARK on fly wheel hub
lines up with V MARK of fly wheel cover. great, so I proceed to try to
time the Magneto and find it to be so far off that it is imposible to trip
the mechinism. so I RETIME the govenor AGAIN back to where the book says
to do it in the first place and proceed to mount the mag with the marks
retarded. time it and try to start it. crank till flooded, it back fired
once providing my only amusment by launching my pop can cover 25 ft in the
air........ and still won't start, Im stumped in how to get this thing
timed

frozen and frustrated
Nick
