almost all old engines have "part time" filters, doing only about 10-% at a  
time. it works.
 
The best insurance is the best oil,,, deisel oil for everything. You can  buy 
15w 40 at a good price, all you ever need.
non detergent oil was fully disqualified by  the SAE in 1949. This was  the 
cause of most engine failures.
