Making more progress on the AR. But the brakes are about to eat my lunch!
Haven't been able to get much pressure on them so I decided to take off the
fenders and cowl. I need to take them off anyway in order to repair the
worst rust damage on the tractor which is between the battery boxes. This
meant removing the steering shaft and the pto lever. The pin in the lever
is very tight and there isn't much of a way to get to it so we ended up
making a slot in the cowl to lift it out over the lever. This wasn't too
big of a deal in that we could make the slot with just a screwdriver
through the thin metal. I intend to add a new piece of sheet metal over the
existing piece.

Now that the fenders and cowl are off, I could get to the brakes. From the
opposite side of the tractor I took a piece of rebar and a hammer and drove
the brake assembly out with surprisingly little trouble. What a difference
it makes when you can get to it! Tomorrow I plan to take the other brake
off and then take it and have the drum pressed off. (Note to self: need a
shop press!)

We did find one disturbing thing today. We were feeling pretty good about
the engine. Drained the oil and I didn't feel it had an unacceptable amount
of water in it. Nothing in the radiator. When I removed the plugs the other
day I didn't have a strong flashlight. Well, this afternoon my wife brought
a light down and looked in the plug hole. BOTH cylinders have water in
them! It is obviously below the spark plug level and it must be below the
valve level since no water came out when I bumped the valves. Not sure
where it came from or what step to take next. Any suggestions? Thanks....TW
