[AT] Cracked diesel block opinion question

Thanks to all who commented on the AC 170 and Perkins engine.  I think I'll 
go out to see it on Saturday - would definitely haul the 6' hog around a lot 
better than the D-14 will!  If I like the tractor, I might take a picture of 
the crack area and ask some of you diesel engine types to comment on the 
crack's location and just how "noncritical" the location is.

Charlie- that Surplus Center engine would do an AC 190 proud!  Might be a 
little much for a D-17 class tractor.  From what I can tell in my IT repair 
manual, the 170 is just a series 4 D-17 with a sheetmetal change and the 
hydraulic pump mounted in front of the engine instead of through the 
somewhat complicated coaxial arrangement that drove through the clutch and 
mounted the pump on the side where the pulley unit used to go to achieve 
"full time" hydraulics.
