[AT] diesel won't start

Jeff,

Don't run the engine on ether, that can do a lot of damage. If I remember
correctly that engine has a glow plug, and using ether is a good way to blow
it up and blow yourself up.

Your fuel filter and fuel lines need to be bleed. Your owner's manual
should tell you the proper procedure for doing that. Most likely there is a
bleed screw you, on the filter housing, open or remove till fuel flows out
of the filter. Then there may be a small bleed screw on the pump. Then you
need to crack the line at the injectors and then crank the engine till there
is fuel squirting out. Then tighten the lines back up. The tractor should
start then.

Subject: [AT] diesel won't start

Guys-

I have a Ford "Jayhawk" 1700. It has a little 2 cyl diesel engine, and
about all we ever have to do to it is turn the key and start it.

Since it was a little rainy yesterday, it was a good time for some
maintenance. Started her up, drove into the barn and changed the fuel
filter. Now she won't start. No fuel coming out of the pressure side of
the injector pump. I can get it going with a little ether, but she won't
stay running. Could changing the fuel filter been that hard on the injector
pump? Is there some way to prime the pump on this thing that I am missing?

Thanks

Jeff
