I experianced that  JIT   part  hold up thing first  hand as well
 
Chevy trailblazer   was  smashed into  when it had  1200miles...  took 3 
months to get the new side  for it.   
 
as someone with an ECON minor  I was  dumbfounded that so many  companies 
bought into this  JIT  falllocie--    China  dont  do  JIT  or there would be 
nothing  on the ships   they send here--  they had to stock up or  ship an empty  
container.
