Well since you brought up cars. I saw in a hot rod magazine a month or
so ago that a company is now stamping new bodies for the late 60
camaro's and plan on doing mustangs in the near future.. They are doing
the whole car... you get a shell and what you want to put into it is up
to you.. I think it will be licensed as a kit car but will be as close
to new factory made... I think they have even researched all the
aftermarket folks as what is provided to make it as close as possible..
I just need more money than I have time to do all this cool stuff.

I know.
Years ago while I was in the thralls of Mustangs, a magazine did a
feature on what it would cost for Ford to bring back the 1965 Mustang,
using current parts prices and making educated guesses about issues that
information wasn't available on.
They took into account meeting current government standards and what it
would take to update the 65 Mustang to meet them.
Long story short, the end result was a Mustang that looked similar to
the original but different as various deisgn elements had to be changed
to meet the new safety standards. It also ended up being about 3 times
the then current price of a new similar car. So nostalgia doesn't come
cheap!
Interesting exercise though
A sidebar, Carrol Shelby, who retained his specialty automotible
manufacturing license, in the 1980's made a one time run of vintage
Shelby Mustangs! Purchasing used 1960s convertibles, his shop completely
rebuilt every item and updated everything with
performance/handling/appearance mods until a new car was the end result.
I believe he built 6. Since he had his license, he simply started their
VIN's with where the last Shelby he ever built left off. So the serial
numbers ran consecutively.
Needless to say, all were sold long before being completed.
