Jack up the wheel and spin it real fast you can  hear anything that sounds 
like you are running on sand or gravel then tear it  down for further 
inspection. 
It actually doesn't hurt to remove each  wheel once a year just to check 
them. There are all sort of little things that  can go wrong and leave out in the 
boonies with a broken wheel or hub or  brake.
