Good point, Phil. I'll try that with the next bad set that comes in. I
changed out three sets today and threw the old ones in the trash. The
trash has already been bundled for pickup, so I'm not going to go
clawing through it. I've got another JD setting in the shop right now,
I'll take a torch to it (the plug) and see how it reacts.

I stopped in at a shop across town to pick up some parts for a Lawn Boy
that I also have in for service and a guy was in there trying to get
help for his John Deere that's fouling plugs. The shop owner refused to
take it in for service. It would have been easy to have him bring it
out to me, but I sent him off to one of the other shops in town instead.
I get enough problem cases without going out and hunting for more.

BTW- I did NOT keep up with the inflow of units to service. I got rid
of three and four came in. My wife asked me tonight if I was telling
people that I'm going to be out of the country for the first two weeks
of April. I told her I have no idea how to let future customers know
that I'm not going to be here. I can see it now -- I'll come home after
Easter and the whole lawn will be filled with tractors and mowers people
have simply dropped off with the expectation that I'll get them
repaired. Wasn't there some sort of scene in a movie about pink
flamingos that simply cropped up everywhere? =8-0

Larry,
Your comments got me to thinking: I wonder if there's some additive in
the gasoline that is causing these shorted out plugs. I know you
probably
don't have the time right now (there's an understatement), but it would
be interesting to find out if the propane torch treatment discussed here
a while back could revive these plugs.
