More than likely, the problem is the voltage regulator. If it is marked
positive ground then you need to be running a positive grounded system.
Or, you could install a voltage regulator that is a negative grounded
unit. I would install the battery with the positive ground, polarize
the generator, and give it a try. It is supposed to be positive ground
and I'm betting it will work with no funds expended.
