Not exactly batteries, but a recent lesson, ever since I bought it my JD 40
the starter would whirl instead of engage from time to time. I thought a
tooth might have been broken off the fly wheel or the bendix was not
engaging. so i pulled it off , fly wheel fine, starter checks fine, re
installed, the non-engagement was worse. Bought a new starter, installed,
no engagement! Ok, what next. You may or may not know that the starter is
installed with a set bolt instead of bolts through a flange like is typical,
you guessed it, the starter need to be rotated slightly and it engages
everytime, retuned the rebuilt one to mother deere and learned a lesson, I
always think the worst becaues it seems that it often is! Check the simple
things first!
