[AT] Welding Question

My son asked about something about filling pinholes in sheet metal with a
mig welder. He saw someone put a copper or brass item behind the hole while
welding. Whatever it was, the weld didn't stick to it making it easier to
make a good looking weld.

He is restoring a very old oil pan that was badly mangled. It had been
creased and had a heavy steel "skid plate" brased on the bottom. He has all
that off, rewelded the bung but still has some pin holes in the creases to
fill. (Dad, I need more welder wire, can you get some tomorrow?)

Thanks.
