Karl:

What is on DB1234? I use Acrobat 6.0 also and am quite pleased with it but
it has a severe bloat (too many lines of code) problem.

I have four different DB CD's transferred from the CD to my Hard Disk. Then
I did a short cut to the "index.pdf" file related to each set of pdf files.
This provides a complete list of all the named files on the each subfolder
where I have copied the CD's contents to.

Here is a sample shortcut for the DB1293 CD:

"C:\John Deere Parts CD's\Tractors DB 1293\INDEX.PDF"

"John Deere Parts CD's" is the top level folder where I have all four CD's
copied into four different subfolders.

"Tractors DB 1293" is one of the subfolders names.

INDEX.PDF is the file that presents the index of all pdf files that were on
the CD which are now loaded on my Hard disk within that sub directory.

Hope this helps.

I was looking over the John Deere parts CD, DB1234 today. I had forgotten
how lousy the scanned images were when running under Acrobat Reader 2.x,
which is included on the CD-ROM.

Just out of curiosity, I opened the same PDF file using Acrobat Reader 6.0.
The improvement in image quality was very impressive. It is enormously
easier to see the drawings and read the text even when left as small images.

Apparently Adobe has made big improvements in the way AR deals with scanned
documents. You have to figure out which PDF file is the manual you need,
and then you can open it with AR. I haven't found a way to make the
cdreader.exe application on the CD load the newer version of Acrobat Reader
yet.

The parts catalog files are in the PDF folder on DB1234....
