If we didn't tax yachts in this county the county would go broke (or we 
would trying to pay the county's bills).  Down here on the coast there are 
MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars worth of yachts that belong to folks in 
other counties and states.  You bet they tax them!  A while back a local 
lawyer was fighting them.  His Hatteras Sport fisherman is under 
international registration out of the Bahamas.  The county found out is 
spent months at a time in tied to a dock in this county and  threatened to 
sieze it.  I don't know how that worked out.  The fight might still be in 
court.
