[AT] OT- Digital Cameras

I got my wife a Kodak EasyShare DX4530. It is a 5.0 megapixel camera with a
3x optical zoom. I didn't know squat about stuff like that and after
shopping around that's the one I got for her. Now that I've played with this
thing a bit I want one to ride around in the truck with me. It would be
great for remembering where I've seen old iron hidden away or for sale so I
can go back and track it down at a later date. This camera came with the
dock you mentioned which is really easy to use. I found it on sale at one
store with the dock for the same price most others were charging for the
camera alone. You don't have to use the dock as the camera comes with a
cable for connecting it directly to the computer but the dock is too easy.
You just plop the camera down on the dock when you are not using it and it
charges the battery. Push one button on the dock and all your pictures in
the camera load onto your computer hard drive in nice files arranged by
date. It takes pretty good pictures and it also does movie clips with sound.
It also uses a SD memory card if you want to take more pictures than the
internal memory will hold. This is nice for vacations, trips, etc. where you
are away from the computer for a while. I thought about getting a good
printer to be able to print photos at home but I can take the memory card to
Wal-Mart, stick it in their machine and print as many pics as I want for 24
cents each while I wait. I am NOT a Wal-Mart fan by any stretch of the
imagination but this is one redeeming quality that store does have. This is
a bargain when compared with the price of a decent printer, ink, and photo
paper. The ink doesn't last long when printing pics and the cartridges are
about $35 each and the paper is expensive too and you have to maintain the
printer. One thing I should mention is about the zoom lens features. Go for
the biggest optical zoom you can find because the digital zoom is a bit
cheesy-it gets real grainy/fuzzy if you zoom very far with the digital
zoom. My 2 cents worth.
