When I was in the Navy I spent sometime in the Naval Hospital in oakland, CA
and the Red Cross was the first people to welcome me. Made I had cards and a
Quilt for my legs. I had that quilt for many years I think its still around
someplace. I kept it on mu Bunk on the ship the whole time I was there and no one
ever comlained about it. They also had a place for doing crafts free to us
and a dance once a week with local girls most pretty good looking.
When my grandfather died the Red cross on the shore base was the only people
who my folks could get to call the ship so I could come home. I got leave
instantly and was on my way the same day the Capt. gave all the leave I needed
because the Red Cross asked for it. The Red Cross also asked if I needed any
funds they were ready hand it over right then, I didn't need any.
I guess my doings with the Red Cross have always been possitive I can't say
enough for them when it comes to helping the military boys.
I am sure there are lot of other boys out there who would say the same thing.
I guess every outfit can have a bad apple though.
