Thanks Spencer, all the chicken's are the same age, about 6 months
old. They were supposed to be all hens, but that was not the case,
as we had 2 roosters, and were all bought from Rural King. He seems
to be a good rooster and keeps an eye on the hens who are just
starting to lay eggs, but he is hard on the hens, like it's date
night. My wife is going to look into chicken "coats" so he can't
latch onto them, and rooster #1 is gone, as he was ornery right from
the start.<br>

We have several friends that have kept - and continue to keep -
chickens for years and have heard that story. You mention the
hens are young but is the roster young? An older roster doing
this ends up as Chicken Catchetorri. Sometimes separating a young
rooster from the hens ( but within eyesight) gives it a few months
to realize that the hens are his friends/lovers and to take it
easier on them.
