One possibility is it could be a port to connect an external heater to warm up engine. Cold Climates sometimes use Webasto or Arctic Fox type of coolant heaters.

<p class="MsoNormal">The other evening I happened to notice this little pipe elbow sticking out of the side of the water pump on my Super M, and I realized I had no idea what it was for. Couldn’t find it in the operator’s manual, and photos of new replacement
water pumps don’t show any port there. A well-done farmer mod, perhaps for purposes of adding a block heater? Or for circulating hot water through something else? Anybody ever seen one in that location?<o:p></o:p></p>
