Bo: Glad to hear you are OK. I had a 95 Suburban that would
have a dead battery every 2 years. It did this on me 3 times
before I got another brand. It had a Wal Mart Neverstart battery
in it when I bought it and we were in a WM parking lot and it just
died. I went back in and got a battery and installed it. 2 years
later at a restaurant at 10pm it would not start and I had rolled
the window down when we got in and it did not have enough power to
raise the window. I had to walk a 1/2 mile through traffic at
night to get a battery. Then called a friend to help carry the
battery back to the parking lot and install. 2 years later it
failed at home and I replaced it with one from a local battery
company. I have used this company since and their batteries work
fine and last about 6 years usually if I don't let them run
down. Stay safe. Good luck on getting back home.
To minimize the eye strain from your monitor, try
looking away every 15 - 20 minutes and stare at
something 20 - 25 feet away, like something in the
next room, for about 5 minutes. Even watching TV for a
minute or two helps due to the movement on the screen.
I used to get up a take a walk and BS with the other
engineers every now and then, also helped with
thinking about what I was working on. Another thing to
try is to sit farther away from the monitor. You can
also try adjusting the brightness and contrast, darker
is supposed to be better.

Some of the disciplinary aides (secretaries) I used to
work with would use a screen filter to cut down the
glare from the monitor. Some people say that wearing a
good pair of polarized lenses helps.

The reason you don’t have as big an issue with you
phone is because of the screen size and the lower
amount of emitted light.
Thanks Mattias. Yes I just saw that message.
It’s good to hear from all of you but looking at this
computer screen gives
me terrible headaches so I don’t. I can do stuff on
my smart phone pretty well
but the computer hurts.
Hi!

Good to hear from you Charlie.
No earlier said that they were evacuating, so I
believe they're safe but worried over their property
and belongings.
Hi gang.

I hope everyone is well. I’m doing fine but looking
at computer screens bothers my eyes enough
that it’s no fun to be online. I can drive and
function ok. There are just some things that bother
me enough to discourage doing them. E-mail is one
of those.

I’m worried about Bo Hinch. Has anyone heard from
him? Some of you probably know
he lives very near Lake Charles (Sulphur), LA
which, under some forecast models is possibly ground
zero for hurricane Laura. I think the elevation of
his whole town is about 16’ above sea level
and it’s only a few miles inland from a bay that
empties into the gulf.
I haven’t been able to get up with him. I hope he
and anyone else in this family who is in the
path of this storm has their antique tractors put
away and is headed for high ground.

If I don’t see your reply John Hall and Al Jones
know how to reach me.
