The rifle is great got it from a Friends last Winter it has fast mountings so I can use various scopes. As I often is one of Them who walks with my dog when er hunt It's preferred with a heavier not so fast bullet. This size of hogs also is good IF they fall where you shoot at them. Not something one wants to go look for when it lures hurted in the bushes...
I have friend that last year emptied His mag when hos dog came back hunted by the hog.
I'd say that rifle will do the job just fine! Just Googled the
cartridge and it shows to be adequate for dangerous African game
such as Cape Buffalo or Lion. Quite a step up over my '06 and even
a bit more than my .338 Winchester Magnum. I bought the ,338 back
in the 80's sometime, hoping to get to Alaska for a brown bear.
Sadly , that never happened and now I couldn't afford the trip.
Hope you get a few more hogs and maybe a moose or stag.

That stump with the orange tape tied around it, is
that a property boundary marker or what? What is the
rifle you used on the hog? of the two hogs I have
killed, the first was killed with a .270 Winchester
(6.8mm) and the second was with my .30-'06 at 220
yards. Probably not the best shot I've ever made, but
certainly the longest. I got "buck fever" and forgot
that the rifle is sighted in 1.5 inches high at 100
yards and I held high, Also, the shot was downhill,
also negating the need to hold high. The first shot
broke her spine just above the front shoulders and she
dropped there. But she got up and drug herself out of
sight using her front legs. As I was getting ready to
go down there and finish her off, she drug herself
back into view. My next two shots missed high (I was
still thinking wrong and holding high) and she dragged
herself out of sight again. I went to where she was
and finished her. I didn't do much population control,
though. She had at least 4 piglets with her that were
constantly running about until the first shot,
whereupon they all disappeared. I also took a nice doe
on that hunt. Now I'm getting hungry for venison chili
and pork chops. :o)
