Upon trying to manage the factory the work ethic was terrible and moral had dropped to a point of near collapse. Beer flowed freely within the company during working hours. It was a real eye opener for JD. But…. what they got out of it was an entry into the European market with some well established distribution and sales channels. It eventually paid off. One of the first products designed and manufactured in Germany but exported back to the US was a 3 cylinder diesel tractor model name 820 in 1968 not to be confused with the US 2 cylinder version 820 diesel. JD started selling US made tractors in the European market with the New Generation tractors announced in late 1960.
