Sure sounds reasonable to me, keep us updated. Careful using ether
or anything when starting these diesels especially if they are new.
A lot of emission and sensor BS on them these days.
Our reasoning for changing the fuel filter was 2 fold ,it was old
and we thought it might of had some water in the fuel that the
added .

All we had to work with at the time was a pair of vice grips ,so
we did loosen one injector line , but needed wrenches to get the
other two .

Thing is it will run smoothly for a couple seconds after
priming then it sputters and shuts off so I dont see a gas soaked
rag helping .

Air in lines a possibility but after priming we pulled off the
fuel ling going into the injector and cranked the engine ,no fuel
came out . Owner is leaning toward a bad fuel pump which he will
have by wensday .
right up.
That's the reason you don't run diesels out of fuel. Did it with
mine
once, and learned my lesson. Wasn't really that low on fuel, but
I was
working on a downward slope that allowed air into the lines.
Kubota
makes a damn fine engine, try this and I assure you it will
work. Not
sure of the rational behind replacing the fuel filter, if it was
running
fine one moment and then it quit because of low fuel, you have
air in
the lines.
He ran it out of fuel and thats when the problem started .
After you
fill it then you use the primer bulb . It will start up ,run
for
about 10 seconds then sputter and die like its starving for
fuel .
First try was a new fuel filter , the round spin on one
bolted to the
side of machine . No change . took off the fuel line where
it goes
into the injector pump and squeeze the primer ,fuel comes
out . He
even tried grandpa's ,whack it with a hammer but failed .
Any
suggestions ? He said the engine is a kubota 3 cyl
diesel . It
was bought used 5 yrs ago and first tie its ever failed .
Thanks , Ivan
