They worked by evaporation, and the car had to be moving right along. Thus, they were not much help in humid areas, or when moving slowly in traffic. I never actually saw one up here in New England, but recall seeing articles about them.<br>

I remember them as a young boy? in the early 50's going to Amarillo. We didn't have one just wondering if they really worked.
