On the plus side a good mechanic will have the hood off in 10 min, valve cover, pan off in another 30 min and be looking inside the engine unlike the new ones where it will take them that long to hook up the laptop. But I cringe when I think of what the shop hourly rate is. To open up an engine is a big job.  Gaskets alone are expmsive.
