Yeah, i guess that doesn't explain the oil in the cylinder. It would have to be a serious amount of oil to fill up the cylinder enough to run out of the muffler though. I can't imagine what is going on.

Thanks Brian, checked out the video, man that would be an easy fix,
unfortunately my tube is fine.

I found this video where the oil
fill tube has a hole in it and leaks oil down to the muffler

Hi Brian, not gas, it's slippery and smells like oil, it also
doesn't evaporate.

Could it be gas, not oil? Is
the gas tank above the head?
Probably not, now that I think about it more, the whole
intake manifold would have to fill up with gas and you would
know it when you try to start it.

Hi Cecil, This engine has the valves in the block so not an
OHV situation. What I find interesting is that it continues
to leak even though it has not been run.

Sounds like oil getting in from the valve guides if
this is an overhead valve engine. Check to see if the
oil drain hole in the head is plugged. Might try
putting an o ring around the exhaust valve above the
guide..

Hi all,
List seems really slow lately, so I have a question
about my wood splitter. It's a Huskee 22 ton, with a
Briggs and Stratton 675, 190cc engine. I noticed the
other day that it had oil leaking from the bottom. At
first I assumed it was hydro fluid, but it turned out to
be engine oil that was leaking from where the muffler is
bolted to the block. I took the muffler off and cleaned
the surface, looked for sources for the leak, and found
none. It still leaked and this is without the engine
being run for about a week. I snuck a piece of cardboard
under it, and the leak is still active, muffler area is
wet again. I checked the oil for overfill, and it is
fine, air cleaner is fine, but a little dirty. I pulled
the spark plug and looked in the cylinder, everything
was OK, except there was a puddle of clean oil
in the bottom of the cylinder. Any thoughts would be
appreciated, This splitter is only about 7 years old and
has maintained well, and housed.
Best regards,
Mike M
