Warning: long answer ahead…

Originally it had the straight six and the 3 speed manual , but I wanted the V8 and the 4 speed SM420 (7:1 granny and a 1:1 “almost” overdrive). As a testament to how long ago this was, I don’t exactly remember how I ended up with the 283 V8 and SM420. All I know is they came out of two different 59 trucks. One of which I owned. There was a 56 in the mix too. Basically I swapped everything around and tinkered so that I could sell the 56 and 59 as running vehicles yet still have the 283 and sm420 for myself. I don’t remember the exact details but it all worked out pretty well.

The V8 has never been bored. I do remember that. Not much of a cylinder ridge and the ridge is standard bore. But it had several broken rings, and I think that’s why and 59 was parked.

I have a distant memory that the Sm420 has a lot of miles so I’m going to completely rebuild it. Fortunately, rebuild kits for the transmission are still widely available and affordable.

The first pieces of business were re-arranging the shop(check), installing airlines (check), a wood stove in the shop so that I can work during the winter (check), and installing ceiling mounted fans so I can work in the summer(check)

So I need to finish up the “sprung” work, the driveline and transmission and frame and get wheels sandblasted and painted and tires. Then I’ll get the cab metal patched and to the blaster and painter and get it on the frame.
