A10% premium is not that unusual. Since this is an on-line auction, the use of CCs when signing up is one way to keep people from bidding and then backing out, they will charge the CC for whatever was bid. When you go to regular auctions you need to provide ID in order to bid so that you can be held accountable for your bids. If you win a bid, I’m sure you can show up and pay cash, especially since you can apparently pay with a check. You can probably contact the auction house and ask them if you can do that. Last time I did an on-line auction bid I paid cash when I picked up the item. Having to pick up everything within two days is also not unusual. But not having somebody there to monitor things being picked up is unusual. Maybe the seller is taking on that responsibility and the auctioneer is out of the picture.

I agree that the viewing times are kind of unusual, but maybe there’s something that prevents somebody from being there at any other times to handle viewers.

By the way, where is the auction?

So a long time farmer across the street from me passed away at 82 years
old, died in his sleep from natural causes. This cut pretty deep,
because he would always stop and chat on his way to lunch. His daughter
is auctioning off all of his farm equipment, which is fairly old except
a newer JD FWD. It is an online auction only, and only two viewings or
walk through are allowed on 2 dates 6/1 and 6/7 from 12-1 PM, both works
days. You had to enter a credit card in order to sign up, as well. Some
people don't use credit cards, and prefer to deal in cash. So I entered
my CC and was able to sign up. That brought me to their start page, and
this was caused me concern, and I think will turn off buyers.

First they have 10% buyers premium. If you pay by CC you'll get charged
a 5% additional charge, and can only charge up to 5K. You can pay by
check, but you'll need to have a letter of credit from your bank. You
have 2 days to get your stuff out of there, and no help will be provided.

Contrast that with another company's auction that I regularly attend. No
buyers premium, credit card is good up to your limit, and if you write a
check, that's fine, they photo copy my ID. Plus if there's not a loader
on site, they bring in a smaller Pettibone to help clear and load
everything out.

Unfortunately, I think this is going to hurt her proceeds.
