After the discussion involving the circlip, I’ve decided that based on Milo and Carl’s emails I was probably approaching it the right way but I just didn’t quite have the right tools or technique down. I was trying to use a very small eyeglass screwdriver as the way to start the clip and it eventually worked but it clearly wasn’t the right tool for the job(and I ruined the screwdriver)

After Steve Offiler mentioned his company’s mechanics picks, I checked them out.  They clearly looked like the right tools.  I decided to break down and buy a nice set of picks from his company. They just arrived today. I’ve got a picture below.

I can recommend them as well-made and well priced. Now if the pick operator can just get his act together(-:
