[AT] Backpack leaf blower

That piston looks pretty good for one that has been run without
lubrication, at least from this photo angle. Dark area, combustion getting
past rings. Are the rings or ring grooves damaged, stuck, crudded up,
whatever?

I have a little 2-stroke dirt bike experience but most of it was decades
ago. When we had a piston seize (iron liners, unlike these new hard-plated
cylinders) there was scoring everywhere, cylinder and piston alike, and
rings would actually break sometimes - and then, boy, you really had to
bore oversize (if you were lucky). I guess these modern engines built with
different techniques are going to provide a different set of clues. I'm
still surprised to see no scoring on the piston and the original machining
marks still obvious.

I'd almost be inclined to clean everything up very thoroughly, reassemble,
and see what happens. Check ring end gap in the cylinder as you go along,
and maybe put in just a set of rings if they are out of spec. However -
I'm not recommending this because you said it was difficult to
disassemble. Your time is valuable.
