[AT] Off topic - P/U Accident --- Front Dash Camera recommendation

ABS systems do no lock up the brake system like the older brake systems
did. When applied, they actually apply the brakes on and off, so your
brakes are applied, backed off, applied, backed off...... all at a high
rate. This allows for better steering control when hitting the brakes and
trying to turn the wheel to avoid something, like what you did. Allowing
the tire to rotate a little when your turning during a hard brake lets the
vehicle follow the wheels, not slide straight forward. This is especially
important on wet, snowy, or icy roads. Some people experience a pulsating
feeling when doing a hard stop. If you drive really fast and hit the breaks
hard, you still can leave tire marks, but not as long or heavy. You’ve
probably noticed that you don’t hear as much tire screeching nowadays, just
the sound of the collision impact. ABS systems at work.

The ABS system also works with the ECS system to help steering by
monitoring the speed of each tire to help keep the vehicle going where it’s
being steered. A problem with one affects the other. You can still drive
with an ABS or ECS fault indication as long as you realize your braking and
steering are not working 100% like they should. Just drive more cautiously.
