Our 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan tractor parts chaser with only 78000mi. had
a check engine light on last week. Code showed Cyl#2 misfire. Johnson's
in Kingfisher diagnosed it and found low compression in #2. Also found a
small seep in the radiator to tank seam. Today we find out it is a
burned valve. In early 2018 we purchased the car from Hertz rental sales
in OKC, we also got the extended warranty they offered and bought the
maximum length as I did not want to have to work on it. Dodge recommends
replacing the entire head assy. They need to sell parts, Chrysler is
going broke... Dealer called the Liberty extended warranty claim service
and the radiator is covered.. That's nice, but valves are not covered
under their section in the fine print. Valves are considered a wear
item. So, a powertrain warranty is not worth the paper it is written on.
$2600-$2800 parts and labor for repairs. We never got any paperwork from
Hertz or Liberty after we bought the car. The mgr at Hertz who wrote up
the sale had broken his neck the day before and left a week or so later.
So, the burned valve cost us either $2800 or $4800 if you include the
$200 thrown away on the warranty... Liberty extended warranties are not
worth the paper they are printed on....
