[AT] Another Hurricane now CA Fires

Agree that raking the forest would be an impossible task, one that would have to be done every year. How long would it take one person to rake an acre? Could you get enough people to get it even half way done before you had to start over?

Fires actually are good for the forest as they help promote new growth. The problem is the number of fires that occur at one time. Some are started naturally by lightning strikes, and there’s nothing you can do to prevent them. But the real issue is the ones started by humans. Campfires that get out of control, fireworks and gender reveal parties that use pyrotechnics during an extremely dry season, and of course, arsonists. Not much you can do about them since they’re an issue of stupidity or malice. You can’t fix stupid. I’m sure that most people in California realize the potential risks of starting any kind of fire during an extremely dry season, but there’s always those that think they know what their doing and that they won’t burn the state down.

Anyone who thinks you can "rake the forests" has no concept of the volume of brush and fuel involved and the acres. It can't be raked and logging does no good. The only way it can be cleaned up is fire. The federal lands they will likely let burn. They will try to protect settlements and buildings if possible. Here in Mariposa County parcel size is 5 acres or more. When we get a big fire they do a pretty good job and few houses are lost.

Now that honor has moved north, but this morning and every morning when I go outside that is the aroma, smoke. Cars are covered in ash. I've lived in California since 58, here in Morro Bay since 79 and this is by far the worst I've seen. Many landmarks are no more.
