One thing i have done a few times is to weld a nut on the stub, or weld a bolt to it. The heat from welding tends to loosen it and a new hex is good for a socket to grip. Works great for bell housing to transmission bolts that striped internal torx.
If you think you can re-use the stud, the drill the nut method I’d you want to save the stud.
