When did the manufacturers of oil seals start plating them with gold 
($1800/oz), palladium (just under $2000/oz), and rhodium($8750/oz) ?

I know it's expensive for a manufacturer to maintain a large selection 
of parts (even if they are made to order and not stockpiled, there are 
overhead costs to keeping an item in the catalog) but this is ridiculous!
