[AT] driver convenience systems

The winch I have with the fob plugs into any of the trailer hitch receptacles on the truck for power. The fob has no problem operating the winch from 50 ft. Last time I used it, I was about 100 ft from the truck (three tow straps and almost all the winch cable tied together).

You are never going to use the remote fob on a winch from 50 feet away as you are arriving at the trailer. I presume there has to be power to the receiver at the winch. Just put an on/off switch in the power wire.

The panic button is a problem on the Ram occasionally but otherwise all the fobs I’ve owned have behaved as one would expect.

Speaking of tractors....

I once saw someone operate a winch that had a fob rather than a wired remote. For safety it sounds smart as you can get farther away from the cable and winching a non-running tractor alone onto a trailer without a helper would be easier.

Retrofit kits to convert to a fob are available for many winches but the pocket dilemma is enough to make me wary and hesitant.

I've come out to my Jetta to find the trunk at the minimum unlatched. Not a good thing when tools are in there. My biggest peeve is honking the horn or beeping when one locks and unlocks the car. Flashing lights are plenty. Blind people aren't usually going to be driving and require a blasted horn to let the know. First thing I had the dealer disable. No longer user do-able. Pure noise pollution. If I don't know if I've locked my car then I shouldn't drive. Oh and nothing as fun as having something in your pocket set off the panic alarm. 😐 Not able to disable that little 'feature'. Both my Jetta and my Ranger have this bonus.
