The church building where my family went during my childhood was built out of hand hewn tulip poplar around 1840 to replace an earlier building. The house I grew up in was framed in hand hewn tulip poplar around 1860 to replace the original cabin. Locally, the tulip poplar was also called whitewood.

I connected to some people who currently attend there last summer.

That area has never recovered from the population losses that resulted from the battle of Bull Run.
