Cecil,

Wondering if a battery load tester would be a good load to draw a battery down? Perhaps the duty cycle is too low, don’t have mine handy not look at right now.

Cecil,

A 12v light doesn't draw that much current. So will have to be on there for days And then that might draw it down enough to be able to reverse the charge. After it has drawn down on the 12 v bulb go to a 6 v bulb. You need to get it down to "0" to be able to reverse the charge. Don't worry about connecting a fully charged 12V battery in parallel with a dead battery. Normal battery jumper cables are usually not a very big gauge and combined with the internal resistance of the batteries the current will be self limiting and not damage anything. If hooking running car batteries to other dead batteries with jumper cables destroyed good batteries the battery companies would be going nuts. In my experience you don't need it connected very long to get the dead battery voltage up enough to where a smart charger can take over. I have run into this often enough after my old "dumb" charger went belly up that I was on the lookout for an old used "dumb" charger to replace one that served me faithfully for over 40 years. Just a month ago I was at an auction here in AZ and danged if there wasn't one that looked like the one I had. Paid $5 for it so the world is now back to its normal orbit again. Works like the old one. Some days go better than others.
