According to Automotive News, it happened 2 years in a row.  GM probably got tired of paying for advertising that shows Ford. The article does say that many Ford aluminum pickup owners use a plastic bed liner so empty tool boxes do not punch holes.

Were I to buy a full size Ford I would lean towards a flatbed or a utility body.

I have a little experience with welding reinforcements into Ram pickup bed exterior panels.

Phil Auten Texas AT List member (pga2 at basicisp.net); James, that video of the "empty" toolbox punching a hole in the aluminum bed floor of a Ford was faked. Notice that it is no longer shown on TV? That is why. GM made a big misjudgement on that one.
